This book presents updated information on deception and the methods developed to uncover lies. The author describes a wide range of lies, the verbal and nonverbal cues to deception and the perceived cues, which often mislead lie-catchers. Other issues considered are: Do animals lie? At what age do children begin to lie? Do frequent lies indicate some personality disorder or are they a fact of social life? The most prominent method used to detect deception is the polygraph.This volume provides basic information about the polygraph, revealing misconceptions and myths tied to its operation. Other methods constructed to detect lies, such as honesty tests, content analysis and linguistic methods, are also surveyed.
