In this book Dov Schwartz analyses the writings of R. Joseph Dov Soloveitchik, one of the most influential Jewish philosophers of this generation. Soloveitchik contended with Jewish as well as general philosophical sources and wrote in varied styles. This broad two-volume analysis provides us with deep insight into R. Soloveitchik's philosophy, as reflected in his various writings. The discussion focuses on a systematic, exact reading of Soloveitchik's essay ''Halakhic Man'' from three main aspects: an analysis of the complex style of the essay in relation to Soloveitchik's objectives, a comparison of this essay to his other works from the same period, and an outline of the philosophic background underlying the essay. This analysis points to the existence of hidden levels in the essay ''Halakhic Man'' – levels undiscerned in the first reading. .
