The Minute Book of the charitable foundation, Chevrah li-Gemiluth Chasadim (''Compagnia della Carita e Morte'') is the oldest ''pinkes'' preserved in the Jewish community of Rome (1559-1586), dating only a few years after the establishment of the Ghetto. The rivalry between the ''Italiani'', the old stock of the Roman Jewish population, and the recent immigrants from the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa, was exacerbated during this period.
