Description
Rav Kook has, until recently, been recognized primarily as an original thinker and an intelligent philosopher of wide intellectual scope. However, alongside his broad horizons, Rav Kook was also an extraordinary religious personality, marked by a rich, spiritual life. An examination of his more intimate writings reveals a person who was given to powerful religious experiences, some of which could be described as mystical in character. These experiences fashioned Rav Kook`s self-perception and contributed an added dimension to his sense of communal mission, at the historic crossroads of an incipient renaissance. The story of Rav Kook`s secret mission and mystical experience has yet to be related. This book reveals the novel contours of Rav Kook`s inner, esoteric world. It deals with Rav Kook`s religious and mystical experience, as well as his image of’himself as the ``righteous one of the generation``, and his messianic modality. The book`s new perspective will raise fascinating questions for that community which lives its life in the light of Rav Kook`s teachings.
