About:
Prof. Michael J. Cohen was born in England in 1940 and took his Ph.D. at the London School of Economics and Political Science under the supervision of Elie Kedourie. He holds the Lazarus Philips Chair in History at Bar-Ilan University; as published 11 books and over 50 articles in learned journals, and edited several books - on the history of the Palestine Mandate, the establishment of the State of Israel, and Great Power Strategy in the Middle East during the Cold War; among his publications, Palestine and the Great Powers, 1945-1948 (1982, paperback - 1986), Churchill and the Jews (1985, revised paperback edition - 2003), Truman and Israel (1990); Britain's Moment in Palestine: Retrospect and Perspectives, 1917-1948 (2014, paperback - 2015), Britain's Hegemony in Palestine and in the Middle East, 1917-56: Changing Strategic Priorities (2017).
He was a Visiting Professor at the Universities of Duke, Chapel Hill, Maryland, San Diego and British Columbia in North America, at the London Scool of Economics; was elected in 1998 to be a Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton.
